Client: Tararua District Council
Consultant: Tararua District Council
Main Contractor: Infracon Ltd
Project Specification:
A major Slip in the Manawatu Gorge closed this critical link through the Tararua Ranges for 8 months meaning that a large number of vehicles were forced to use two alternative routes. The Saddle Road took the brunt of this traffic including most of the heavy vehicles, resulting in extensive wear on the road and a number of slips and drop outs. Once the main road was opened again the council needed to act quickly to bring this road back into a suitable state of repair and also widen some corners as there was a high chance that this road could be needed again at any time due to the unstable nature of the main gorge road.
